In this role, you will provide strategic and managerial direction to the Commercial Lines Department. This role involves overseeing the implementation of underwriting systems and procedures to improve operational performance, ensuring quality agency relations, and maintaining a profitable book of business. The Director will also be responsible for the training and career development of the department's staff and representing the department in interactions with other departments, outside vendors, and industry issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction to the Commercial Lines Department through interaction with Commercial Lines Managers and the Product and Underwriting areas.
- Identify and implement underwriting systems and procedures to enhance departmental effectiveness and efficiency.
- Ensure quality agency relations and work to maintain a profitable book of business for each agent.
- Oversee the training and career development of department staff and manage the hiring of additional staff as needed.
- Represent the Commercial Lines Department with other departments, outside vendors, and on industry issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience preferred.
- 9-11 years of experience, or a Master's Degree with 7-9 years of experience.
- Extensive professional knowledge in the field across multiple disciplines and broad business segments.
- Strong knowledge of management practices.
- Ability to make significant decisions impacting a major portion of the company.
- Ability to interpret and operationalize company policies and set organizational objectives.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make strategic decisions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle abstract problems impacting multiple functions.
