E&S Excess Casualty Underwriter

Our client, a leading Property and Casualty insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced and dynamic E&S Excess Casualty Underwriter to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative environment while managing a portfolio of new and renewal business. As a key member of the underwriting team, you will focus on building and maintaining strong wholesale broker relationships, underwriting complex excess casualty risks, and providing high-quality customer service to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite a diverse portfolio of excess casualty business, focusing on both new and renewal accounts, while adhering to underwriting guidelines and profitability standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers, working collaboratively to drive growth and secure high-value business opportunities.
  • Analyze risk exposures, assess underwriting information, and ensure pricing is appropriate for the level of risk involved.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers, ensuring the best possible coverage options for clients.
  • Review and approve submissions, risk analysis, and loss history to assess the acceptability of risks.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure timely processing of policies, endorsements, and renewals.
  • Monitor and manage book performance, including evaluating loss ratios and taking necessary corrective actions.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor offerings to ensure the company remains competitive in the marketplace.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as claims, actuarial, and risk management to deliver a seamless experience for brokers and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in excess casualty underwriting, with a focus on new and renewal business.
  • Strong relationships with wholesale brokers and a proven ability to drive business growth.
  • Solid understanding of underwriting principles and practices, particularly within the excess casualty line of business.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in evaluating risk and making underwriting decisions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and accountability.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Salary: $100-150k on the base
