VP - Casualty Reinsurance Underwriter
Position Overview:
Our client, a premier global reinsurance firm, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President (VP) Casualty Reinsurance Underwriter to join their facultative team. This role will be primarily focused on General Liability, Auto, and Umbrella Excess, with a preference for candidates who have a strong background in both primary and treaty reinsurance. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in the reinsurance industry and a proven track record in underwriting casualty lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of casualty reinsurance business, specializing in General Liability, Auto, and Umbrella Excess lines of business.
- Work closely within the facultative team to evaluate, structure, and negotiate reinsurance solutions for clients.
- Assess and price risk for both primary and treaty reinsurance business, ensuring alignment with the firm's strategic objectives and risk appetite.
- Develop and execute reinsurance strategies for complex casualty business, identifying new opportunities for growth.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and reinsurers to drive business development and client retention.
- Stay informed of market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to provide expert insight into underwriting decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including claims, actuarial, and risk management, to ensure the firm's reinsurance portfolio remains strong and profitable.
- Mentor and guide junior underwriters, contributing to a high-performance culture and fostering knowledge-sharing within the team.
- Support the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, tools, and frameworks.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in reinsurance underwriting with a focus on casualty lines, including General Liability, Auto, and Umbrella Excess.
- Strong experience within facultative reinsurance, with a preference for candidates with exposure to primary and treaty reinsurance as well.
- Proven ability to underwrite complex risks, with strong technical expertise in casualty underwriting principles, pricing, and risk assessment.
- Established relationships with key industry players (brokers, clients, reinsurers) and a reputation as a trusted advisor.
- Ability to manage and grow a profitable portfolio of reinsurance business.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and clients.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM) are a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
