Job Title: Senior Middle Market Field Underwriter
Location: Chicago (Remote)
Salary Range: $150,000 - $200,000
Job Summary: The Senior Middle Market Field Underwriter will represent the company within a defined territory of agencies, managing and servicing a profitable new and renewal book of Commercial Lines business. This role requires the highest level of technical underwriting ability and involves territory planning, performance analysis, and agency management to maximize production, profit, and retention.
Key Responsibilities:
- Territory Management: Conduct territory planning and performance analysis to maximize production, profit, and retention.
- Agency Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with agencies, leading business planning and account inventory management.
- Underwriting: Underwrite and manage a commercial lines book of business, evaluating exposures to loss, determining pricing, and making risk acceptability decisions.
- Collaboration: Coordinate collaboration meetings on large, complex accounts, and lead the account team in analyzing new business opportunities.
- Documentation: Document underwriting decisions and maintain supporting information and data in accordance with audit standards.
- Mentorship: Coach less experienced field underwriters and mentor agencies to improve overall performance.
- Communication: Establish and maintain effective communication regarding underwriting procedures, growth and profit goals, industry trends, and agency relations.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance audits and submit recommendations to improve department results.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and tools.
- Ability to travel within the assigned territory.
Preferred Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting guidelines and risk assessment.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching junior underwriters.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
