Financial Controller
Selby Jennings has partnered with a leader in next generation fuel technology that is actively making a significant impact on preventing and mitigating climate change. Their next key hire will be a Financial Controller. Ideal candidates will be local to the Reston, VA area, but the position is open to candidates across the East Coast who can commute to Reston on a quarterly basis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred but not required
- Master's degree (MBA) preferred but not required
- 8+ years in accounting leadership roles, preferably in smaller, publicly traded companies
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, and internal controls
- Financial Planning and Analysis experience
- Experience managing a small accounting team and leading financial transformation initiatives
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
- Experience in big audit firms, or nuclear industry a plus
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with CFO and executive team on financial strategies
- Enhance accounting processes and systems for efficiency and accuracy
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, etc.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Prepare financial statements, quarterly/annual reports, and regulatory filings
- Participate in tax planning, compliance, and reporting
- Manage external audits and relationships with auditors, regulators, and financial institutions
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team
- Monitor financial performance and provide insights for business decisions
- Support ERP accounting system implementation
