Senior Risk Analyst- Commodities (Houston, TX)

A leading global energy trading organization is seeking a Senior Risk Advisor to join its Middle Office Risk team in Houston, TX. This role plays a key function in ensuring transparency in commodities supply and trading operations while adhering to established risk management frameworks and policies.

Our trading division is actively expanding its crude, refined products, natural gas, power, and environmental products platform, supporting a growing international presence. With offices in multiple global locations, the team is focused on optimizing and enhancing trading activities.

Key Qualifications:

• Minimum 4+ years of experience in a commodity trading environment (Front, Middle, or Back Office).
• Strong knowledge of commodity risk management principles, including derivatives, physical crude and refined products markets, trading cycles, and risk metrics (VAR, Stop Loss, Stress Testing).
• Familiarity with industry best practices in risk governance processes and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage across stakeholders, work collaboratively within a global team, and operate independently.
• Understanding of derivatives regulation and compliance requirements.
• Proven ability to develop frameworks supporting commodity risk management initiatives.
• Ability to interpret complex data quickly and translate insights into clear communication for all organizational levels.
• Strong analytical mindset with an independent and objective approach to assessing Front Office expectations.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or equivalent).

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and analyze daily risk exposure reports, P&L reports, and other risk-related reporting for North American and international trading activities.
• Develop high-quality, automated management reporting to provide insights and transparency.
• Assess deal structures and financial impacts in an operational context.
• Independently evaluate trading strategies to identify, raise, and mitigate financial, operational, and reputational risks associated with new or existing activities.
• Oversee risk governance policies and controls, ensuring compliance with internal and external policies.
• Act as the primary risk function contact for specific product lines, collaborating closely with global offices.
• Support process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
• Partner with commercial teams and other stakeholders to support new business growth.
• Balance independent risk reporting with a business-enabling approach.
• Contribute to cross-functional projects, including audit support, working capital analysis, and reconciliation with IFRS accounting standards.
• Maintain a deep understanding of physical and financial energy markets within the respective commodity sector.
