Trust Advisor
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote with manager approval)
Job Overview: Our client is seeking a Trust Advisor to join their Fiduciary Services team. This role involves supporting Trustees and Clients by managing various needs with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating different personalities and working styles, performing intricate trust administration tasks, and maintaining frequent client interactions. The Trust Advisor must approach challenges with an open mind, be solution-focused, and respond optimistically. Integrity, discretion, and confidentiality are paramount.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis on probate, fiduciary, income, retirement plan, and estate planning issues to provide tailored solutions for clients.
- Review and interpret both draft and existing trust documents regularly.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, external attorneys, tax preparers, and other advisors.
- Lead initiatives to enhance processes and training within the team.
- Oversee the administration of new and existing accounts, including account setup, distributions, terminations, and tax-related tasks.
- Manage projects or tasks as directed by the Head of Fiduciary Services, collaborating with Trustees and team members.
- Ensure a consistent and thorough approach in collaboration with Client Services, adhering to office policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Fiduciary Risk Management Committee as needed.
- Evaluate and improve current office policies to enhance efficiency.
- Provide support and backup for team members during their absence.
- Handle multiple ongoing projects, coordinate processes, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Develop and maintain proficiency with various technological tools and database applications.
- Collaborate with different office departments to ensure client and trustee requests are fulfilled.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Fiduciary Services.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in trust administration.
- Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor designation or a commitment to obtain it.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Word, and familiarity with Accounting/Portfolio Management Systems (e.g., Sungard's AddVantage, ProFx, Estate Planning Tools, Charitable Financial Planner).
- Proven success in a client service environment.
- Ability to manage complex, sensitive, and confidential information with sound judgment and a positive attitude, even under pressure.
- Initiative to work independently, complete loosely defined tasks, and optimize the time of Trustees and Senior Management.
- Eagerness to learn new responsibilities.
- Strong follow-up skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and editing skills.
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and computer applications in a demanding environment.
- Willingness to take ownership of processes and meet challenging deadlines.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy.
- Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to contribute to the team's success.
Reporting & Classification: The Trust Advisor reports to the Head of Fiduciary Services. This exempt position requires working in the Boston office Monday through Friday, with occasional flexibility in hours.
Work Location: The Trust Advisor will work from the Boston, MA office three days per week, with the option to work remotely two days per week, subject to manager approval. Remote work eligibility and in-office requirements are part of the firm's Remote Workplace Program and may change.
