Job Title: Middle Market Senior Field Underwriter

Salary: $110,000 - $150,000

Location: Remote (Ohio)

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal commercial lines business, ensuring thorough analysis of exposure, pricing, service, and sales opportunities.
  • Make informed decisions on risk acceptability and pricing throughout the policy lifecycle, collaborating with internal teams such as claims, risk control, premium audit, and billing.
  • Establish and maintain strong underwriting relationships with policyholders, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Develop and implement renewal strategies, working closely with agents to deliver renewals and act as a subject matter expert on market conditions and competitors.
  • Communicate effectively with sales representatives, account managers, brokers, clients, and prospective clients regarding underwriting assessments, pricing, and rating.
  • Conduct field surveys and write detailed reports for underwriting, offering consultative and technical services to policyholders.
  • Create and execute agency strategies to grow the business, participating in ongoing underwriting education and training.
  • Mentor and train other underwriting team members, supporting the Region Leader in team development.
  • Review and underwrite primarily renewal business, assessing exposures to loss, determining pricing, and ensuring compliance with company guidelines.
  • Notify agencies of underwriting decisions, requirements, and status updates, addressing questions and escalating issues as needed.
  • Stay current on state and territory regulations, industry trends, and share relevant information with team members.
  • Conduct special studies and projects to improve underwriting procedures and practices, recommending enhancements to coverage, pricing, or competitive positioning.
  • Travel as required to cover assigned territory, including short-notice trips and daily driving duties.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of underwriting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record in accordance with company standards.
