Director of Investment Accounting
A Life Insurance firm is looking to add a Director of Investment Accounting to the team. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of investment accounting experience, along with strong leadership and mentorship skills. **This role will be 4 days in office in Des Moines, IA.
What you will do…
- Lead the Investment Accounting team, overseeing GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting for all asset classes in the consolidated investment portfolio.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of investment assets, liabilities, income, and expenses according to GAAP and statutory standards.
- Collaborate with investment operations, financial reporting, tax, treasury, and business leaders to support their needs, while maintaining strong external relationships with auditors, investment managers, and service providers.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying automation opportunities, adopting new technologies, and enhancing investment accounting controls.
- Monitor financial reporting and regulatory developments, ensure compliance, and address investment accounting topics for internal audiences. Manage the Investment Accounting team, including recruitment, development, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
What you will need to be successful…
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field, with at least 10 years of experience in financial markets and insurance industry, and 5 years of leadership
- Proficiency in investment accounting systems, along with a thorough understanding of various investment types such as derivatives, fixed income, equities, and alternative investments.
- Proven leadership in developing, coaching, and mentoring team members. Strong quantitative skills to organize, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting reports to senior management. Collaborative team skills within and outside Corporate Accounting, working positively towards organizational goals.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively, meet strict deadlines, and advanced knowledge of financial databases and spreadsheets. Some travel may be required.
