About the Role:
My client, a respected Managing General Agent (MGA) based in Oklahoma City, is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines E&S Underwriter specializing in cannabis coverage. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a solid background in Excess & Surplus lines, specifically in the cannabis industry. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of underwriting complex commercial risks, particularly in the cannabis space, and will be able to navigate the nuances of state and federal regulations that impact the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of cannabis-related commercial lines accounts in the Excess & Surplus (E&S) marketplace.
  • Assess and evaluate risks for commercial cannabis operations, including cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail, ensuring appropriate coverage for each risk.
  • Utilize AIM and ImageRight systems for managing policies, underwriting documentation, and workflow processes.
  • Work closely with brokers, agents, and clients to develop customized insurance solutions tailored to cannabis operations.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions within the cannabis sector.
  • Analyze and interpret policy forms, endorsements, and claims trends to ensure proper coverage is provided to clients.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure efficient and accurate processing of policies and renewals.
  • Negotiate and structure deals to meet the unique needs of cannabis businesses while maintaining profitability.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to internal teams, brokers, and clients regarding underwriting requirements and cannabis-related risks.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in E&S commercial underwriting, with a focus on complex risks and specialty lines.
  • Direct experience with underwriting cannabis-related risks is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of AIM and ImageRight systems for underwriting and policy management.
  • Thorough understanding of the commercial insurance landscape, particularly within the cannabis industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, or related field (preferred).
  • CPCU, CIC, or other relevant industry designations (preferred).
