Analyst/Junior Associate - Mergers & Acquisitions
Key Responsibilities:
Transaction Execution: Support the execution of regional M&A transactions within the FI sector, including banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and fintech firms. This involves managing the preparation of financial models, due diligence, deal structuring, and presentation materials (e.g., pitch books, management presentations, confidential information memorandum).
Financial Modelling & Analysis: Conduct detailed financial analysis for transactions, including developing financial models (e.g., DCF, LBO, precedent transaction, and comparable company analysis) tailored to the financial institutions space. Analyze financial statements, assess deal feasibility, and assist in determining valuation.
Market Research & Strategy: Conduct thorough research on the regional financial institutions landscape, including trends, regulatory changes, and market opportunities. Provide strategic insights into potential M&A targets and acquisition opportunities, helping to inform client strategies in the FI sector.
Client Interaction & Presentation Preparation: Assist in the preparation of client presentations and materials for senior bankers. Actively participate in client calls and meetings, supporting senior team members in presenting recommendations and deal strategies tailored to the FI sector.
Industry Knowledge: Stay up to date on trends, regulatory changes, and industry shifts impacting the FI sector and its sub sectors. Monitor the competitive landscape, identify potential M&A targets, and analyze market developments to support deal sourcing and client strategy.
Team Support: Work closely with senior bankers and other team members on transaction execution. Provide support in drafting documentation, managing project timelines, and coordinating with legal, tax, and other teams to ensure smooth transaction processes.
Regional Business Development: Assist in business development efforts focused on regional clients in the FI sector. Prepare pitch materials, conduct market research, and support senior bankers in developing new client relationships and identifying new mandates within the financial services industry.
Key Qualifications:
Experience: 1-5 years of experience in investment banking, financial services, or a related field, with a strong focus on M&A transactions in the financial institutions sector (banks, insurance, asset management, fintech, etc.). Familiarity with regional financial markets is preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field from a top-tier institution. Additional qualifications, such as an MBA or CFA, are a plus.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial modelling and valuation techniques (DCF, LBO, precedent transactions, comparable company analysis). Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required for financial analysis and presentation preparation. Experience with financial statement analysis and transaction structuring in the FI sector is a plus.
Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the financial institutions sector, including knowledge of regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, and key sub sectors (banks, insurance, asset management, fintech). A keen interest in the evolving financial landscape, especially in relation to regional trends and opportunities, is essential.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly to clients and internal stakeholders. Comfort in participating in client meetings and presentations.
Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial modelling, presentation materials, and transaction documentation.
Work Ethic & Time Management: Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining professionalism and quality.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience with cross-border transactions or specific expertise in key financial sub sectors (e.g., fintech, insurance, banking).
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the region is a plus.
- Strong understanding of regional regulatory and market conditions within the financial institutions sector.
