Linux Production Engineer

A leading global investment firm specialising in quantitative and systematic trading is seeking a Linux Production engineer to join its growing technology team. This firm operates across multiple assets classes and leverages cutting-edge research, data, and technology to drive high-performance trading strategies. Your Role:

As part of the global infrastructure support team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimising the firm's Linux-based trading and research platforms. You will work closely with end users, application teams, and engineers to ensure the stability, scalability, and security of the on-premises Linux environment. In addition to day-to-day operational support, the role involves project-based work, including new deployments, system upgrades, automation, and monitoring improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, administer, and enhance a high-performance Linux estate
  • Support the trading and research infrastructure, ensuring high availability
  • Implement automation and monitoring solutions to streamline operations
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to document and refine processes
  • Participate in an on-call rota for critical system support (typically remote)

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux system administration
  • Proficiency in RedHat and CentOS distributions
  • Experience with end-to-end server deployments
  • Familiarity with AMD/Intel hardware and troubleshooting physical components
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to root-cause analysis
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for technology and continuous learning
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP, UDP) and server network stacks
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible is a plus
  • Knowledge of NFS/SAN systems is beneficial but not essential
