Quantitative Power Trader (FTR, Virtuals, Cash)

We are working with a tier 1 systematic hedge fund that is looking to bring on a Quantitative Power Trader to join their trading team focused on the electricity and energy markets. This role blends quantitative research, trading strategy development, and real-time market execution to capitalize on inefficiencies and short-term opportunities in power markets. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of power market dynamics, a strong quantitative background, and a passion for fast-paced, data-driven trading.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage systematic and discretionary trading strategies across power markets (e.g., Day-Ahead, Real-Time, FTRs, virtuals, cash)

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of historical and real-time power market data, including demand forecasts, generation patterns, congestion, and pricing signals

  • Monitor market conditions and adjust strategies dynamically in response to evolving fundamentals and market signals

  • Collaborate with quantitative researchers and engineers to design and refine data pipelines, trading tools, and risk management frameworks

  • Work closely with the operations team to ensure robust trade execution, compliance, and reporting

  • Stay up to date on regulatory developments, grid operator changes (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, ISO-NE), and fundamental market shifts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline

  • 2+ years of experience in power trading, energy markets, or commodities, ideally with exposure to nodal or ISO-based trading

  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, SQL); experience with market data analysis and model development

  • Deep understanding of power market structures, locational marginal pricing, and grid operations

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a strong focus on execution and results

  • Experience with optimization, forecasting models, or machine learning in the context of power or commodity markets

  • Familiarity with ISO systems such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO, or CAISO
