Equity Analyst - Long/Short Equity
📍 Location: Chicago, IL (On-Site)
💰 Compensation: $140,000 - $200,000 (Base, Plus Performance-Based Bonus)
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Equity Analyst with a background in long/short equity investing to join our team in Chicago, IL. This role will involve deep fundamental research, financial modeling, and idea generation across multiple sectors. While a long/short equity background is preferred, we are open to candidates with strong experience in fundamental equity analysis from other investment strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth fundamental research on public companies, evaluating financials, competitive positioning, and industry dynamics.
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, including forecasting, valuation analysis, and scenario modeling.
- Generate long and short investment ideas, providing well-supported theses and risk assessments.
- Monitor existing positions, tracking key catalysts, earnings releases, and market trends.
- Engage with company management teams, sell-side analysts, and industry experts to gain insights.
- Collaborate closely with portfolio managers and senior analysts to refine investment recommendations.
- Prepare and present investment memos and reports to support decision-making.
Qualifications:
- 3-7 years of experience in equity research, hedge funds, asset management, or investment banking with a focus on public equities.
- Strong background in fundamental analysis, financial modeling, and valuation techniques (DCF, comps, precedent transactions, etc.).
- Prior experience with long/short equity strategies is highly preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and develop differentiated investment insights.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate investment theses.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field; CFA or MBA is a plus.
