Role Summary:
The Director is responsible for maximizing recoveries and minimizing losses on problem assets in line with the bank's policy, focusing on debtor and counterparty credit risks. The role involves managing problem asset strategies, workout negotiations, restructuring and exit strategies, and conducting regular evaluations of asset collateral and enterprise valuations. This role sits within the risk management function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maximize recoveries and minimize losses on problem assets through strategic management and evaluation.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to manage litigation risks and minimize reputational and financial impacts.
- Partner with the First Line of Defense to advise on recovery and restructuring methods, including managing intricate counterparty situations.
- Coordinate with internal and external advisors to develop cohesive strategies and ensure diligence and sound judgment.
- Conduct regular evaluations of asset collateral and enterprise valuations, propose provisions, and present valuation recommendations to senior management.
- Oversee a portfolio of Substandard Accrual exposures, conduct quarterly reviews, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with external and internal stakeholders, including agents, financial advisors, and senior management.
- Contribute to the development of default management and credit policies, and participate in audits and regulatory exams.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory, accounting, and industry developments and prepare closing memos with lessons learned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of experience with a major US or international bank.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in workout/restructuring, credit analysis, and managing distressed assets.
- Strong credit skills and experience with loan documentation and negotiating workouts and credit agreements.
- Knowledge of US GAAP, US Bankruptcy Code, and US regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver as a team player.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for effectively conveying messages to senior audiences.
